Swancar Farm Wedding Photographer - Kate & Dave’s wedding photographs

A warm and sunny day at Swancar Farm greeted me for Kate and Dave’s wedding. Swancar Farm Country House sits in rolling countryside near Trowell and is easily reached from both Nottingham and Derby. As a Nottingham wedding photographer, I always enjoy the short trip over to Swancar, a timeless venue that exudes character and romance and only 15 minutes from Nottingham city centre. With its barn style reception hall, stunning gardens and pretty courtyard space, Swancar is becoming an increasingly popular venue for weddings. As you begin to make your way up the sweeping drive towards the exclusive and private estate, you know you are approaching something special.

Swancar Farm Wedding Venue

Swancar offers a self contained private cottage within its grounds - The Old Stables. This is where I first joined Kate. Kate and her bridesmaids were in high spirits and had spent the previous night here in the pretty cottage. We then moved over to the bridal suite for final bridal preparations where the excitement and good vibes continued. It was then time for the main event.

Wedding Ceremony

Kate and Dave chose to hold their ceremony in the glass barn, the latest addition to Swancar, built just off the lower barn. Kate’s dad proudly walked her down the aisle into this light and airy stunning space. After the ceremony it was out into the courtyard for canapés, drinks and their confetti walk.

A few family pictures on the front lawns were followed by stylish portraits of the newly weds in the beautiful surroundings of Swancar.

We then joined the rest of the wedding party and guests in the great hall for the speeches and wedding breakfast. After cutting of the cake and first dance, it was time to party - The Great Hall providing the perfect space for this. A great wedding in a great venue.

Preparations for the wedding

The day started with me joining the girls in the morning for the bridal preparations in the beautiful bridal suite at Swancar Farm. It was a very relaxed morning with Amanda, her daughter who was a flower girl and her two bridesmaids. Everyone was very relaxed and easy to get along with which made my job as a Nottingham wedding photographer a lot easier.

Family and friends travelled from all over the UK to join in the celebrations. The ceremony was held in the barn on the upper floor and was beautifully presented as always and Amanda & Matt had their wedding breakfast in the magnificent Oak Hall which is situated downstairs. The weather was fantastic, we had blue skies and sunshine for the majority of the day and it didn't look or feel like February which was great because that meant we could do Amanda & Matt's wedding portraits outside as well as their family formal pictures.

Returning To Swancar Farm

This is not my first time photographing a wedding at Swancar Farm in Nottingham and hopefully it will not be my last. The 16th century country house is set in 250 acres of beautiful Nottinghamshire countryside and is exclusively a wedding venue that is in demand. What a fantastic wedding to be part of and I hopefully will be returning to photograph another wedding there very soon. A special thank you to all the staff at Swancar Farm for their amazing hospitality once again.

Amanda and Matt I really enjoyed being part of your special day and I hope you love the memories.

I wish you all the best in your new life together as husband and wife and have a great time in the Maldives.

Tips For Planning A Winter Wedding

Top Tips

More and more couples are having winter weddings these days. They are no longer just for the spring/summer season and why not? Winter weddings can be beautiful and very romantic and if you are lucky you may be fortunate enough to get beautiful winter sunlight or even a sprinkling of snow.

Having your wedding in the winter is very different to a wedding in the summer. There are a few small issues that come hand in hand with winter weddings and these can be avoided with some prep work before your special day and good communication with your chosen wedding suppliers.

You will find it beneficial booking an earlier ceremony time in the winter months as it starts to get dark from 3pm onwards and if you want to include the venue and its grounds in your photographs you will need to do this in good natural light.

Allowing at least 90 minutes from the end of the wedding ceremony to start of your wedding breakfast is a good guideline because you and your guests may have to travel from the church ceremony to your reception venue. That will leave time for you to have those important formal family photographs and your bride and groom portraits.

Remember it is a winter wedding and it will be cold with a possibility of rain or even snow so think about shawls for yourself and your bridesmaids.

Keeping in regular contact with your wedding venue and photographer and work with them to create a timeline to help with the logistics of your wedding day and most of all relax, and try and spend a little time alone as a couple.
